After deciding on our narrative we then went and decided the next thing we had to do was discus our ideas on where the performance and narrative will lie in the song. Because last time we worked in the groups Jamie and Danielle and then me and tom we decided to mix it up; this helps build our team skills as then we are all confident with each other and this confidence will help us to voice our views to each other. We printed out 2 sets of lyrics and then went off, we gave ourselves the timescale of 3 days to think up some ideas and to note them down working in our groups of 2.

After 3 days we all got together with our idea sheets and discussed what ideas we had come up with. We decided to do this in our media lesson the Monday the 17th of October. We wanted to have a big open space to do this in as we wanted to be able to animate our ideas to one another; for example I had an idea about body position of the boy and girl In the happy memories in the first verse and I found the best way to explain my idea so they could visualise what it would look like is through standing up and acting it out. We used 2 different coloured highlighters to be clear on which section of the song will be performance and which section will be narrative. We had to make sure that we didn’t have too much performance as still shots of a band performing aren’t necessarily conventional to indie. We also had to be careful of how we placed the narrative; because of how sensitive our topic is we had to make sure that we portrayed it correctly and we were respectful but also truthful. We then went and printed out a big A4 sheet, which we put our final ideas on. We used a mixture of all 4 of our ideas. I did the writing because I can write quickly but neatly and I also helped with the ideas about blocking and acting of our characters, Jamie thought a lot about editing techniques we could use to develop our ideas once we had filmed them. Danielle was amazing at trying to incorporate all our ideas together and thinking about the mise en scene of each idea and tom thought deeply into what camera angles we could use to enhance our ideas and how we could use different equipment to bring our ideas to life. Below is the stages we went through; it took us close to 3 hours to fully agree on all of our ideas because we wanted to be in depth with our ideas and plan it out as much as we could.

After fully developing our ideas we then moved onto the stage of trying to visualise our ideas and note them down in a story board format. We decided as we had already discussed our ideas there was no point us all sitting doing the storyboard together it would be better for us to work in a production line so that we are being time effective as group. We decided to do this based on our talents of the group. As I took GCSE art I was the person who did the drawings for the storyboard, sat with me was tom who translated the notes on the lyrics sheets to information which we needed to put on our storyboard; things like the camera angles and the timings off each shot. Danielle worked on thinking up the transitions between each shots and then told me them and I wrote them between the shots on the storyboard. She also shared the photos with all of us making sure that we all had the photos which we needed. Jamie took the photos for the storyboard and then along with our input made the animated storyboard which would help to create and present our ideas for what our song will look like. Below are all the photos from our storyboard;

After making our storyboard we then went on and made our storyboard animatic. An animatic is designed to try and bring our ideas from on paper to real life; this will help us see if the music video will flow well and look good. We took a picture of every frame using the cannon 700D and then we imported that to sony vegas pro. Using the timings that we put on each shot were were able to match it to backin track of the song; this saved us lots of time and definitely was a good idea. Below is our finished product; it is missing some bits because we decided not to plan the bits without lyrics until we started shooting.
