Casting profiles  narrative

After deciding on our relationship theme and thinking out our ideas and our storyboards we needed to decide who are characters were going to be. After mine and Danielle’s experience last year we decided as a group we needed reliable actors who were able to really get into the role but also match the description of what a character in the indie genre looks like.  The conventions of indie characters are that they have their own style, they don’t follow the looks and fashion of the ‘trendy’ people. Typically the boys in indie music videos have brown hair; they have a pale complexion and their size is petite but tall. We brainstormed for a little while about who we thought would fit the role well and we came up with Ryan.

Ryan is one of dainelles close friends therefore we knew he was going to be reliable, we went and visited him as a group in November during one of our double media lessons. When we went and met up with him we explained about our narrative and about how it was all around mental health; trying to give him as much background information as we could. He agreed and said he would be happy to take part we just had to let him know when we wanted him for filming and for how long for. Ryan fit our criteria perfectly he was brown haired with brown eyes, he has a very caring and genital nature therefore we thought acting wise he would be perfect.

Because of the nature of our narrative we needed a petite girl who was pale in complextion. As a group we decided to use me. I was reluctant at first because I wanted to be heavily involved in the filming side of things because of my creativity. After thinking about it we decided to use me; the group wanted me to stay very much with my current style of ripped jeans and dock martins to give me that indie kind of look. Im quite petite which will play to our advantage when our  character starts to deterate.

Ryan unfortunately had to cancel on us because of his medical test for the army; meaning we had to go out and fine someone else. We then decided to go with my friend Matthew. As you can see they both have very facial structures and features. We are close friends and very comfortable with each other, this makes the intimate scenes a lot easier to film because both of us. Matthew is very keen in front of the camera and is able to easily do what we ask him and adapt his personality at the time to suit the personality of the main male character that he is playing. Matthew struggled slightly at the beginning due to being quite a sheltered person, we were asking him to be slightly more aggressive in some cases, this is something he found really difficult. But he is a very quick learner and was able to deal with this very easily.

Performance/ band members

This is Reece and he was our base player in our performance aspects of the music video. He was going to be our drummer but because one of our members fell ill on the day of filming we had to put him into the guitar base role. He was very very good at lip syncing and he was also very good at pretending to play the guitar so it still looked good. Reece in everyday life dresses very indie anyway so we didn’t have to give him any direction on what to wear, he was also very confident throughout the filming process which helped us a lot to make the performance look realistic.

Reece Peers Holland: Base Player

Luke was our lead singer in our band. He’s very comfortable on stage because he preforms with his guitar anyway so we didn't have to do any changing to his acting. He was extremely helpful to us as naturally he's very indie (therefore we didn't have to get him an outfit) but also he was conformable with us filming him from many different angels, which was really useful.
