Digipak analysis
1975 digipak/album research, the photos were taken off google images as I don't own the digipak. I did each slide on MacBook keyboards app, then took screen shots of it and placed it on here as a image collage.
This is the digipak from The Krooks song ‘she moves in her own way’, it was released in the 26th June 2006 by The Krooks who are an indie pop/alternative band. For the mise en scene of this digipak the cover is dark in colour; using the colour black suggests that the band are going more towards a rock like feel, this can help attract audiences of the rock genre; giving the krooks a more far-reaching audience. There is synergy between all the different sections of the digipak which gives the representation that the band are very simplistic and this can help attract people from the indie genre as indie itself is seen as simple, calm and roar music. This relates to Richards Dyer’s star theory “stars are constructed, artificial images even if represented as ‘real’”, although they wanted to be represented as roar this perception has been produced with a target audience in mind. They hadn’t used a picture of the band which isn’t uncommon in the indie genre; conventionally indie digipaks are very quiet and simple without the use of large amounts of editing. In terms of the font all the font is the same; there is no difference between the artists name and the name of the song. They have used different colours to represent this difference; using the white on the black background makes there name stand out more I think because it’s abstract, and it attracts the eye. I really like the blue on the cover; there is a hidden connotation within using this colour. Blue symbolizes loyalty, strength, wisdom and trust which is exactly what the lyrics are about and is what the band what to represent their views are about women; attracting feminists.
