Filming narrative scenes

This is our blog from our first filming day, we evaluate, make comments and give explanations of what we are doing in these blogs. Blogs have become a very popular way of documenting life, using platforms like Facebook and youtube to publish there blogs; stars like Zoella have be born.

After our first filming day we look closely at all the shots we had done, analysing the angle of the shots and the lighting of the shots. We were very happy with the angles of our shots in the car and very happy with the bedroom scenes; on reflexion though some of the bedroom scenes were very yellow. As a group we though about how much time we have to shoot and the practicalities of reshooting and we decided with those shots we can edit the colour of them post production; therefore it was more time efficient. We did decide to reshot the bath scene though because we felt there was too much empty space in the shot, we would tie this in on our second shooting day.

OUR
VLOG

This is the Vlog from 19th December; we spent this day mainly doing shots of me in the bedroom but also used the day to get all the singular depression shots of me. We faced many problems during this day which we have spoken about during the Vlog, the main one being the fact that the camera condensated up; delaying our shooting schedule. Another problem we had was one of the shots we had planned to do, our twilight shot of the camera panning round me as my expression change didn’t work because we couldn't find a room which has enough space in it. We decided to do some depression shots of me sitting on the window ledge instead which we liked a lot. The best scenes we filmed during this day was the letter writing scene and the bathroom scene; the shots were crisp, well shot and looked professional and clean, just what we wanted them to look like. Looking forward to our next filming day we need to make sure we bring a tripod with us so that our shots are nice and still. Our planning of the shots along with the schedule we made worked really well, we can defiantly use this for our next filming day.

Our 3rd narrative vlog was on Saturday 4th of February, the aim of the day was to film the hospital scenes; along with some filler shots for the girl. We needed to do quite a few depression shots of me including some singular shots of me sitting on my own. Compare to our other filming days the day was very successful, we hit very few technical problems which meant that we were able to stick to our time scale and work quickly and effectively. The only major problem we had is how much we had to with the lights; there was lots of adjusting the light setting and we had to move the lights around a lot which slowed down the day a little but luckily we planned for some delay. Other feedback from the day is that we really liked the hospital shot, the angles were good, mise en scene was on fantastic as well as perfect lighting. We were very creative in the moment, if we had an idea and we had some spare time we would try it out as a shot; even if it was unsuccessful we still were creative with angles and potential shots.

In half term (Thursday 16th February) we did our 5th shooting day, which was our 4th day shooting narrative. It was a day which was used to mop up all the shots we hadn’t done yet; we had many shots to do but a limited time frame, it was a rock and roll day. We had to do happy and sad memories of me and Matthew, me running down the stairs and some match on action shots of me running after Matthew and the car speeding off; to be able to get everything done we needed to keep to a tight time scale. We encountered a few problems but we were getting use to problems popping up on our filming days no matter how much we planned. Our major problem was the fact that we got locked out of Jamie’s car, the car had the camera, his keys and all the lights in it; meaning we were stuck until his dad got to mine. Half an hour later his car was unlocked but this still delayed our filming time at the forest which meant we were even more pushed for time. Although it delayed our timing a lot we were still able to get everything done and we were extremely happy with the shots we got in the forest. We didn't get a chance to vlog our feedback so we sat round on the Friday and discussed/evaluated the day; i then went and filmed the evaluation shot at the end, the feedback was a mixture of all of our ideas. The single shots of me and Matthew, although good weren't what we were hoping/looking for therefore we decided to dismiss them for the narrative; but we kept them for digipak ideas. We also all said about how adaptable and creative we were, although some ideas didn't work we still tried to work positively and get what we could get done. Hopefully the next filming day will be our last narrative filming day!!!

We needed to start thinking about our digipak and after doing our digipak questionnaire we decided to started shooting potential shots. We used Tuesday the 21st of February to go to Bexwell forest and shoot some pictures of me laying on the ground on my own. While we were there we decided to do a shot of me walking through the forest as a filler shot incase we needed it. The digipak shoot there went well; we were very lucky with the weather and the fact that sun was out gave great natural lighting. We then went back to sixth form to do the turning the key shot, another successful shot which defiantly is short listed too be used in the match on action section of the video. Altogether the hour we spent filming was extremely successful, we didn't hit any problems for once which was nice. Now we have done all the shooting we are going to assemble the rough cut and get some audience research back on it, from there we will act on their feedback to create our final cut.
